Dryer lint IQ

Dryer lint IQ

It is election season and, recently, I heard one politician describe another as having the IQ of dryer lint. After I stopped laughing – being a “lint head” myself (aka, a textile guy) and prone to a bizarre curiosity about such things – I started thinking about dryer lint. This article is intended to increase awareness and knowledge about the often overlooked subject of dryer lint

Dust Mites, Bed Bugs and Allergies

Dust Mites, Bed Bugs and Allergies

If you already have dust allergies, you are well aware of DUST MITES – those microscopic bugs that live on dead skin cells shed by you and your pets. They don’t carry disease, but many people are allergic to their feces. Dust mites are only visible with a microscope. In the photomicrograph below, you can see a dust mite trying to get through our Pristine® allergen barrier fabric. He can’t do it. And that’s a good thing. Dust mites, it seems, have two missions in life: procreation and defecation. A typical mattress contains tens of thousands of dust mites. And a single dust mite can produce 20 waste droppings each day, each containing a protein which can cause various miseries from itchy eyes to asthma attacks. Just keep reading.

Blocking bed bug bites

Given that my company produces allergen-barrier fabrics for bedding, we continue to get questions about fabrics which are effective in blocking bed bugs. Such fabrics are used in pillow and mattress encasements, to block the passage of bed bugs – and their bites!

What is in your pillow?

In one of the Peanuts comic strips, Linus embraces his security blanket after rescuing it from the trash, and says "Are you all right, ol' buddy?" To many people, their pillows are like security blankets. I even see people dragging their pillows through the airport. Pillows are personal – fulfilling very personal needs and comforts.
However, Linus and his followers may want to loosen the tight embrace on their favorite security blanket. It is not always healthy.

Does “thread count” really count?

Does “thread count” really count?

It happens every time. Whenever I talk to people about bedding for skin care, they invariably respond “that sounds great, but what’s the thread count?”

Bedding for athletes ... Sleep on it!

Bedding for athletes ... Sleep on it!

It has always surprised me that athletes of all stature wear the most technically sophisticated clothing and equipment on the planet, and at the end of the day sleep on bed linens just like their mothers and grandmothers used. However with new therapeutic bedding, as the famous sports quote goes, "Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional”
